Apple brought AI notification summaries for news and entertainment apps, revert to Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone when the company released iOS26 In September. Apple disabled these summaries in early 2025 after the BBC pointed out in December 2024 that the feature distorted the media organization’s notifications and displayed inaccurate information.
What’s different now with these summaries is that your device settings warn you that the summaries may be inaccurate. Your device will also say that you should check the information in these summaries, and the best way I can think of to do that is to go to the notification and read the story. This might defeat the purpose of summaries for some people, but it might also ensure that people read beyond a title.
Here’s what you need to know about these AI summaries and the new warning.

iOS 26 warns of summary inaccuracies
When I updated to iOS 26, I was greeted with splash screens asking for various permissions. A splash screen was for AI notification summaries. When you see this screen, you have two options: Choose notifications to summarize Or Not now. If you press Not nowthe splash screen disappears.
If you press Choose notifications to summarize, You are redirected to a new page where you will see three categories: News & Entertainment, Communication & Social Media, and All Other Apps. Tapping on one of these categories brings you notification summaries for apps in that category. Under the News & Entertainment category, there is a warning that is circled in red if you tap on it.
“The summary may change the meaning of the original title,” the warning said, adding, “Check the information.”
There is also a warning at the bottom of the screen saying: “This is a beta feature. Summaries may contain errors.”
After tapping on the categories you want, tap Summarize selected notifications at the bottom of your screen. If you have selected all categories, this button will read Summarize all notifications.
And if you don’t want these summaries, you can press Don’t summarize notifications. If you allow these summaries and don’t like them, you can easily turn them off. Here’s how.
How to disable AI notification summaries
1. Faucet Settings.
2. Faucet Notifications.
3. Faucet Summarize notifications.
4. Press the Summarize notifications switch to the new menu.
You can also follow the steps above to re-enable AI notification summaries. You will also need to select the categories for which you want these summaries again.
