Corina Marshall spent 11 years working in retail digital marketing and realized the industry was falling behind.

Specifically, the technology that helped retail brands sell their unsold or excess products (off-channel inventory) was not as sophisticated as it could have been. Brands sell their excess inventory at discount retailers like Nordstrom Rack, but often lose money because managing unsold inventory is difficult. Products are distributed across warehouses and teams must guess the value of an item and when is the best time to sell it.

“Too much time passes between each stage of the off-channel inventory funnel, making it difficult to move products to the most favorable destinations for brands and retailers,” Marshall told TechCrunch.

It decided to give a technological boost to the off-channel market. In 2024, she launched her company Another, a software system that helps businesses manage unsold or excess products. The secondary markets in which these items are typically sold operate on tight deadlines and can be very dynamic in pricing due to fluctuating demand. For a retailer to be successful at a place like Nordstrom Rack, it must have rapid access to real-time data and coordination so clothing can move efficiently from retailer to warehouse to store, she said.

Another connects to a company’s existing software systems, such as those that manage customer returns, to better centralize an organization’s data and workflows. This way, teams across the company can access data from the same place, making decision-making more effective.

The company announced a $2.5 million funding round on Tuesday led by Anthemis FIL and Westbound.

Marshall said she met with her key investors at an industry event last year and said the new capital would be used to accelerate product development and hiring. She’s looking at markets from competitors like Ghost, another company that also helps brands sell their unsold inventory.

However, she said, Another hopes to help businesses manage excess inventory before brands choose to sell items to wholesale resellers. She says items sold through these resellers can be heavily discounted, something the brands may not want.

“Another’s technology provides real-time data and insights that allow teams to know when, where and how to move inventory, enabling smarter decisions to be made that maximize value rather than defaulting to liquidation,” she said. Overall, she hopes her product will help move the industry toward solutions that better balance profitability and sustainability, as excess inventory is often destroyed if it’s not moved quickly enough.

“Consumers gain access to better prices and more options, while brands and retailers improve profitability and reduce waste, making it a win for everyone involved.” »
