“Yeah, I’m a very empathetic person. I mean, at the end of the day, we’re still family,” the reality star said. “I always see things that way, no matter what’s going on. There are times when I have to be super protective, and there are times where, at any moment, I would love this relationship. I’ve always said that.”

“The music side and producing, that’s not my thing, and bonding with her dad is her thing,” Kim said of her 12-year-old daughter’s foray into the music world.

“Even while making things up, we have to communicate how North is moving through this world and all of these opportunities that are coming her way. It’s really important to filter that and respect her opinion on things that are happening with her kids,” she added. “I think it’s important for kids. You just kind of have to put all the other things aside.”

Some have openly criticized Kim’s perceived leniency in parenting North, but she told Khloe that she is much stricter when it comes to her youngest children, Chicago, Psalm, 8, and 6, than she is with North and 10-year-old Saint.

“I treat my two older children a little [differently]. I have stricter rules for my two little kids,” Kim noted. “So my two older kids have devices [and] my two grandchildren do not. It’s interesting [because[ your first kid [or] your first two children, they grow up without or [you are] figure it all out together and then you learn and you realize maybe you want to do things differently.

In an October 2025 interview on Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Kim gave a detailed account of her then-strained co-parenting relationship with West.

“Look, it’s not easy, no matter what, to co-parent with anyone. I think the only thing that intrigues me is that there’s this narrative that I’m keeping the kids away from him,” Kim said, according to TODAY. “I’ve never done that once.

She then expressed her frustration with the narrative that she is deliberately keeping their children away from West.

“There were so many times where I was like, ‘Ah, I just want to show all these texts. What are you talking about?’ For example, we just haven’t heard from (Ye). I beg them to go hang out or things like that.”

Kim explained that she felt blindsided by West’s social media rants about their co-parenting relationship when she felt like things were positive between them.

“It’s more of a narrative that, I think everything’s fine, we’re living our lives, and then I wake up and there are all these tweets about how I kidnapped the kids,” Kim said at the time. “And I’m like, it’s not a kidnapping, it’s a divorce, you know? We can all still be in each other’s lives and have a group dinner.”

On Thursday, January 16, North posted a clip of his song “Piercing On My Hand (Ye Version”) on Instagram, per PEOPLE.

In the song, North talks about her two dermal hand piercings which have been the center of much debate on social media, with critics saying the 12-year-old is too young for body modifications.

“Piercing on my hand, other bands holding,” North raps on the song’s first verse. “No friends, just filter, you won’t understand.”

“All my friends are hits, you know I’m not lazy/You’re so mad because I’m so mainstream,” she says as the song continues. “I’m not sure I’m crazy/I want more piercings and tattoos/I love blue hair, put it in braids/Turn the music up high/I want about a hundred thousand racks.”
