New Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer Reveals Yoshi

For some reason, Nintendo decided to keep a “direct” presentation one Sunday on the next Super Mario Galaxy movie. In this one we get a new trailer showcasing some new features Mario characters are joining the cast in the sequel, although we haven’t had any confirmation on whether any big, famous actors are voicing them as if they were the rest of the team. Both Yoshi and Birdo will make their theatrical debut in the film when it premieres on April 1.

The trailer opens with Mario and Luigi investigating a pipe that apparently has some sort of monster trapped inside. The two activate their fire flowers and prepare for battle, only to discover that there is no monster in there, just a small, scared dinosaur. Ohh. Thus begins the beautiful on-screen friendship between Brooklyn plumbers and a prehistoric sidekick who eats bad guys and makes them poop in eggs. Although this is the first official reveal of the character, we saw what he would look like back in November. after a box of cookie dough revealed its early movie look.

We also see Birdo and Peach fight in a brief action montage, but it’s blink and you’ll miss it, so there’s not much to take from it yet. However, the cast of characters in the second Mario The film sees some pretty substantial growth, with Bowser Jr. and Rosalina joining as well, as revealed in the first trailer last year. We even get a glimpse of Baby Mario and Baby Luigi in this latest teaser, but it’s unclear if they’ll be separate characters or just some sort of transformed state that the brothers will go through during their next adventure.

At the end of the live stream, Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri said all animation for the film was complete and it had officially entered post-production, focusing on sound design and finishing the music. Does that mean it’s too late for them to fix what’s going on with these gross, bulging eyes on Bowser Jr.? Probably. Super Mario Galaxy movie isn’t available for a few months, so who knows what other surprises Nintendo is still waiting in the wings.
