Autonomous truck start-up Waabi’s billion-dollar fundraiser is not just about trucks.

The deal, worth an initial $750 million, plus an additional $250 million from Uber tied to deployment stages, marks a major expansion into robotaxis for the company founded by former Uber AI chief Raquel Urtasun. This also looks like another Uber chip on the autonomous vehicle roulette table. With more than 20 audiovisual partners worldwide, the question is not only whether Waabi can realize its plans to deploy more than 25,000 robotaxis, but also whether Uber’s all-encompassing strategy actually works.

Look how Equity Podcast hosts Kirsten Korosec, Sean O’Kane, and Anthony Ha discussed Uber’s AV partnership strategy, why Waabi’s “simulation first” approach might be different, and other headlines of the week.
