Mitch McConnell is under medical care after a health problem.

The 83-year-old Kentucky Republican was hospitalized Monday evening after experiencing flu-like symptoms over the weekend, his office said. According to a spokesperson, McConnell went to a local hospital out of “an abundance of caution” to be evaluated by doctors.

The good news here is that his camp says his prognosis is positive. “He is grateful for the excellent care he is receiving,” the statement said, adding that McConnell has remained in regular contact with his team and is already looking forward to returning to work in the Senate.

No further details were provided on how long McConnell is expected to remain hospitalized.

In October, the legislator fell to the ground in the halls of the U.S. Capitol as activists questioned him about ICE. He was helped to his feet by aides and continued to vote after the incident.

Earlier this year, he said he would not seek re-election in 2026, planning to serve out the remainder of his current term through January 2027.
