  • Xcode 26.3 RC now supports agentic AI – full release coming soon
  • Anthropic Claude Agent and OpenAI Codex are fully integrated
  • Xcode capabilities are also made available through MCP

Apple announced a major upgrade as part of Xcode 26.3 that brings more powerful AI coding to the platform, including agentic AI to automate some of the tasks that require less human oversight.

The IDE, specially designed by Apple to develop applications for Apple products, now supports Anthropic’s Claude Agent and OpenAI’s Codex directly in the interface.

Xcode already had limited ChatGPT and Claude integration, but version 26.3 deepens it by giving agents native access to more Xcode tools.

Xcode gets an agent upgrade

In an announcement, Apple explained how AI agents can be used to write and edit code, create projects, run tests, find errors and find the latest documentation for Apple developers, which could make it easier to overcome hurdles already in place to ensure apps comply with the iPhone maker’s guidelines and standards.

The company has even worked with third parties to maximize token usage to ensure both efficient performance and reduced operating costs. And for maximum interoperability (a very welcome new trend in Big Tech), Apple is also making Xcode capabilities available via the MCP industry standard.

“Agent coding boosts productivity and creativity, streamlining the development workflow so developers can focus on innovation,” wrote Susan Prescott, vice president of global developer relations.

For the end user, a drop-down menu allows them to choose their preferred model version from the two AI companies. Some initial setup to link accounts is required.
