“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kandi Burrus may not be on Bravo anymore, but his daughter, Riley Burrushas just started her career in reality TV.
Last summer, Riley appeared in the first season of the network’s latest reality series, “Next Gen: NYC.” There, she showcased her life in the city with some of her closest friends, including other “Real Housewives” descendants.
Of course, Bravo fans know Riley Burruss, as she was featured on “RHOA” alongside her mother and the rest of her family. However, it’s different when you’re in charge, according to Kandi.
Kandi Burruss Gave Her Daughter Riley Some Sound Advice Before Starting Her Reality TV Career With Bravo

Season 2 of “Next Gen: NYC,” which follows Kim Zolciak-Biermann’s daughter Riley, Ariana, Teresa Giudice’s child Gia, and Meredith Marks’ son Brooks, will air on Bravo in the coming months.
While speaking with PEOPLE, Kandi revealed how she prepared her daughter for life in the Bravo bubble.
“Well, I just told him not to be there [and] say anything you won’t support. You have to make sure you stay honest on this show,” Kandi said. “And even if you say something they don’t like, own it and keep doing it.”
Kandi, who spent 14 years on “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” knows a thing or two about dramatic feuds. She explained to her daughter that while conflict is the name of the game, there is one thing she wouldn’t want to happen on the show.
“Don’t let them rewind no tapes on you like they do [with] people in the shows. We don’t do that,” Kandi said.
Kandi Burruss Was A Little Nervous About Her Daughter Starring in ‘Next Gen: NYC’
Season 1 of “Next Gen: NYC” ended with a bang and Riley was at the center of the show’s drama.
In a 2025 interview, Kandi revealed that she was worried about her daughter being the focus of the upcoming show.
“People are already trying to say crazy things about my kid online and other famous kids,” Kandi said. “When it’s her in front, there’s really nothing I can do to shelter her.”
Kandi explained that, in the past, the cameras mostly followed her. “It’s not about me [this time]”, Kandi shared. “You don’t just catch a stray animal. It’s like people can really focus on you and say whatever they want and it sure makes me scared. Oh Lord. I’m afraid of what she’s going to do there, my child.
Riley opened up about her experience filming alone for the first time
Luckily for Kandi, the first season wasn’t as bad as she thought it would be. In fact, Riley previously shared how “proud” she was of herself for making it out on her own.
“I think the thing I’m most proud of is the way I articulated myself [throughout the whole season]. At first I thought I hadn’t done so well. In the moment you’re emotional, you don’t really realize how it’s happening,” Riley explained.
Riley explained that following in her mother’s footsteps meant more to her than people probably thought, adding, “I’m happy to be able to make an impact somewhere.” »
She also echoed advice her mother gave her before the cameras started rolling. “She told me, ‘Be yourself, be honest, be real and find out what you want to do.’ [in real-time]. As long as you’re honest, you’ll be fine – don’t lie about anything,'” Riley added.
Kandi Burruss Says She Still Funds Daughter Riley’s NYC Lifestyle
According to a previous report from The Blast, Kandi discussed her finances with Bravo figurehead Andy Cohen on an episode of “Watch What Happens Live.”
During their conversation, the mother of three said her daughter, Riley, relies on her more than she would like.
“Riley digs in my pockets,” she said, adding that Riley’s two-bedroom apartment in New York was one of her biggest expenses.

Although Burruss is no longer starring on “RHOA,” the singer-songwriter said in a previous interview that she still supports the show’s success.
“I think it’s important to continue to support the franchise even though I’m not here because I was there for 14 seasons, and I want them to be successful,” she said, according to The Blast. “I want ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ to continue for another 15 years.”
