PSN was down and some are still having problems — here

If PSN was down for you, it wasn’t just you. The official PlayStation status page confirmed that “Some services are experiencing issues” – and more specifically, the services in question were “Games & Social.” The Status page now says that all services are online and I was able to start playing Overwatch 2 again, but not everyone was so lucky. Many people still couldn’t play games online, although things now seem to be completely settling down.

PlayStation hasn’t said anything official beyond the status page, but one of our users (thanks, Idra) said they spoke to Sony Support, who said, “We don’t have a set time frame for 100% resolution of the issue; we’re just asking for your patience. Thank you.”

Tired of the breakdown? Try our Astro Bot PlayStation 30th Anniversary picture puzzle below. It’s not CoD, but it’s something…

Refresh

Ok friends, all the outage graphs continue to go down. I suspect a few people will still have hiccups for a while, but it looks like the healing is almost complete. It’s late at night at my house, so I’m going to log off and hope you’re all back online and enjoying the rest of your day, wherever you are.

Okay, I’m seeing a HUGE drop in reporting on Downdetector in the US and Japan. Our friend Idris in the comments here, who previously spoke to Sony Support, is back online. And I can see in our dashboard that the number of you viewing this live report has decreased significantly in a short period of time. So I think we’re back online correctly this time…

I added a little puzzle game to the top of this page, because if you’re here, I guess you can’t play the game you really want to play. This is an Astro Bot image puzzle for the 30th anniversary of PlayStation, to help you remember the good times.

I strongly suspect that advice like this is placebo – my guess is this person just arrived to come back after trying this, rather than these actions being the cause of their return. But I will share it with you out of interest:

The average response in Japan is colder than the average response elsewhere, I would say.

I agree with this message about the state of the system! Pick a fight!

I like how Playstation shows people as being online, when they’re not, including me…make up your mind. Servers, whether offline or down, are fighting 😂😂😂…#PlaystationDown #PSNDown #PSN pic.twitter.com/BnqAgNq80S March 22, 2026

Another upvote from someone on Reddit who found the update didn’t help them:

Idra in our comments says that the update trick didn’t work for them, but what’s even more notable is that they said they spoke to PlayStation Support and received this quote:

“We do not have a set time frame for 100% resolution of the issue; we simply ask for your patience. Thank you.”

I just received this announcement on Reddit. Read the room, guys.

Oh, I checked, the Japanese PlayStation status page says the same thing as the US version: all systems working.

X keeps filling up with messages from Japanese people who can’t connect and don’t know why, though…

You can say that Japan is only just getting online and see that many people there can’t actually connect (on PSN) – here’s the Japan specific graph for PSN on Downdetector, which is going up hugely at the moment…

Dan Shepherd, in the comments on this article, says that checking for an update on the console and its app got him back online. I mentioned earlier that I was skeptical that this problem could be fixed, because I’m online and yet my console says I need to apply the latest update – but hey, if it worked for Dan, maybe it will work for you.

I notice that X is particularly filling up with Japanese users who probably wake up on a Sunday, ready to play, and find they’re stuck. And as a post below notes, the status page says everything is fine – they slept through the part where it was “officially” down…

Speaking of Downdetector, this graph continues to remain stable: a fairly large percentage of people still seem to be stuck, for whatever reason.

Another sign that it’s not a location issue: commenter “Kira” on Downdetector says “Finally servers in Texas!” — responded immediately with cries of “fake” and “Lie. Ignore this guy.”

As one mod noted in the Reddit megathread, the best advice seems to be to keep trying, unfortunately – there’s still no further official word from PlayStation on why some people might be having issues, while someone else in the same house as them might not be.

It’s possible that they’ll slowly restore the system and not allow everyone access – although most online status pages call it “recovery” or something, but PlayStation continues to say everything is fine.

And, by the way, I’m based in the UK, as is this person, so I really don’t think the difference between being online and offline is based on location.

I saw an article circulating on The reason I don’t think this is accurate is because my PS5 isn’t up to date and I’m now back online!

I’m using software 26.01-12.70.00.01 — and my machine tells me an update is available. I’m not touching it, in case the update breaks things for me, since I’m one of the lucky ones to be back online.

There are a lot of comments from people on Downdetector from people identifying where they are from and still being down – Pennsylvania, Ohio, Ontario, etc. – but location doesn’t seem to be the trigger, as this Reddit comment from someone with two consoles in a house makes particularly clear:

Here’s a new image of the PlayStation Status page…

…but here’s a new comment from Reddit…

The end of the Downdetector chart went from a steady decline (for the second time) to a further rise (for the second time)…

The most recent post on PlayStation X invites you to play Fortnite to get new skins – I just hope you can actually go online to do so…

Unfortunately, many people say it’s over for them.

The Downdetector.com chart is down again, after a brief hiatus, although commenters are in various states of disruption.

Overwatch 2 worked well for me, at least. Got stepped on once, nailed once. About average for me. Obviously the problem in the first game was my team…

It’s also worth nothing that on Downdetector.com there was a slight increase in reporting after the sharp declines in the recovery…

Hmmm… is it really over?

It certainly seems like some people are still having trouble logging in and aren’t happy with the all-green statement on the status page…

I’m back and I’m annoyed with my DPS in Overwatch 2, so good.

It’s officially back

This previous outage ultimately saw Sony offer all affected PlayStation Plus members an additional five days of service for free as compensation.

Of course, this is far from the first PSN outage – and it’s far from the biggest. Well, unless it lasts a long time…

Seems like it’s still luck for some but not for others

I can see my trophies again! I don’t really care about trophies these days – my days of chasing Xbox 360 achievements are long gone – but considering 20 minutes ago I couldn’t see them, it’s a welcome improvement.

Online, but not officially

Sony still hasn’t updated the PlayStation Status site to say it’s officially back. As you can see, I’m back online.

As you can imagine, players were a little frustrated by the outage.

“What makes it worse is how random it seems. You can sit down ready to play, and out of nowhere you get connection errors with no warning and no clear idea of when it will be fixed. It kills the whole vibe, especially if you only have a short time to play,” says one user, Used_Debt_9763.

Another, SillyWillySaxon, says: “An outage made me realize how many games are an online service. I can’t access the mo career on something as simple as EA Sports PGA Tour. I feel so vulnerable with most of my games downloaded digitally 😓”

Hopefully the PSN comeback in the last few minutes holds up – not all outage recoveries go smoothly, after all…

It’s back…maybe

Downloads work!

So, I was able to add Slime Rancher 2 to my library, download it, and start playing it successfully during this PSN outage – which is a drastic improvement over previous PSN outages, where people often couldn’t launch games they had already downloaded, play online, or download and start new games.

What do you mean by “Offline”?

Now I notice that my “Online Status” is offline and it really won’t let me select the option and do anything with it, despite the fact that I am clearly online and downloading a game. Slime Rancher is 70% off.

So what can you do?

Still the official line

This is noted elsewhere ]A screenshot from downdetector showing several gaming services down” loading=”lazy” data-new-v2-image=”true” src=”https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/6sEgEZKiXd9odeJDRnA4pW.png” data-pin-media=”https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/6sEgEZKiXd9odeJDRnA4pW.png”>

You can see that people aren’t just noticing that PSN is down on Downdetector, but it’s hard to know if these are connected – the reports may simply be the repercussions of PSN being down, as specific games or services are reported as not working.

You can also see that the spike is going down, although there is no status update from Sony and I’m not playing Overwatch 2 yet…

What’s going on? Officially, all this

Here’s Sony’s list of what’s officially down – you can see Sony officially acknowledged it about 40 minutes ago, but online reports first surfaced about an hour ago. And to be honest, by Big Tech standards, recognizing a problem after 20-30 minutes isn’t that bad at all.

Hello everyone, I’m looking for information on what’s happening on PSN and will update this page as I find information!
