Following Superman‘s blockbuster debut, all eyes are on the DC Universe, especially when it comes to kicking off the other half of the film. The best in the world,Batman.
Although a release date has not been announced, the next Dark Knight film in the DCU is titled The brave and the bold and will be directed by The Flash director Andy Muschietti. Very few plot details are known, but the film reportedly follows Bruce Wayne/Batman with his son Damian Wayne/Robin.
Speaking to CinemaBlend, Muschietti addressed widespread fan-castingwhich saw actors ranging from Alan Ritchson to Jonathan Bailey to Jensen Ackles thrown into the ring (via DC Movie News). The director noted that he is still “curious“about who audiences want to see in the role. Barbara Muschietti, his sister and producing partner, added: “I love our people, I love our audience, but at the end of the day, you know, I think the only thing we have to do is choose our casting.“
Notably, while the Muschiettis only confirmed seeing fans instead of taking them into consideration, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn was more direct in his response to similar questions. “Do I have any ideas for actors to play Batman?“Say it Guardians of the Galaxy director. “Absolutely, I do. I have guys I like. I have guys who are at the top of the list, just like I had people who were at the top of the list for Superman.“
Responding to rumors that the role had already been cast or that there were favorites, he continued: “People can guess, and maybe they’ll be right about some things. However, Gunn hinted that behind-the-scenes creatives weren’t just looking at star power when selecting the next Batman, joking that “it is unlikely that [he’s going to hire someone that’s [like] Sylvester Stallone as Batman.“
Despite this position, he confirmed having met an actor “who is a very big star who wants to be Batman.Regardless, Gunn has stated elsewhere that the three things The brave and the bold you have to do well are “the character himself, the writing and the person who plays him.”
The brave and the bold has not yet set a release date, although it is widely speculated for a 2028 debut. In addition to Muschietti directing, the screenplay will be written by Christina Hodson.

The DC Universe is one of the biggest franchises in comics and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics began as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, films, TV shows and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the latest iteration of superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several films with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the direction of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
