Costco is set to open its first standalone gas station this summer in Mission Viejo, California, marking a major expansion of its fuel operations, with a second location in Hawaii planned to open next year.
The California location, located approximately 50 miles from Los Angelesshould open at the end of June, according to to local media KABC, citing city officials. It will become the largest gas station in the chain, with 40 pumps.
The Kapalama Kai community is located in Honolulu, Hawaii. according to to C-store Dive, citing a spokesperson for the private education system Kamehameha Schools, which owns the project.
The move marks a major milestone for the discount retail giant, whose existing warehouse fuel stations have long been plagued by long wait times, heavy traffic and crowded parking lots.

Costco’s Mission Viejo location, at 25732 El Paseo, will be located on the former site of a Bed Bath & Beyond, which city officials approved to be demolished last year to make way for the project. It will be next to a Krispy Kreme location, a Dairy Queen Chill & Grill and a Jack in the Box.
The project will include 20 fuel dispensers, the equivalent of 40 pumping stations, according to the 2025 urban planning documents.
At 17,234 square feet, the “supply canopy” will also house an accessory office building and employee break room, documents show.
The new service station will be open every day from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. exclusively for Costco Membersreported C-store Dive.

Gas prices in the Mission Viejo area currently range from $5.69 to $6.35 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.
The two closest existing Costcos gas stations — at the Laguna Niguel and Laguna Marketplace warehouses, about 2.5 to 3 miles from the planned Mission Viejo site — both list gas prices at $5.69 a gallon, according to the Costco app.

For the Hawaii site, demolition and property preparation began in October 2025 and is continuing, according to the project website.

Gas prices in Honolulu range from $5.14 to $5.59 per gallon, according to GasBuddy. The closest Costco in Iwilei, about 2.2 miles from the planned Kapālama Kai site, lists gasoline for $4.14 a gallon, according to the Costco app.
