Rapper Megan Thee Stallion had to be taken to the hospital in the middle of her Moulin Rouge performance! The Musical, in New York on Tuesday evening, its representative confirmed.
“Megan began feeling very ill and was quickly transported to a local hospital, where her symptoms are currently being evaluated,” the spokesperson told US media.
“We will share additional updates as more information becomes available.”
The 31-year-old musician plays the role of Zidler – the show’s eccentric emcee – marking her highly anticipated Broadway debut.
Her hairstylist, Kellon Deryck, wrote on X: “Everyone say a prayer for Megan, we are all in the hospital.”
Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, should play Zidler until May 17, indicates the Moulin Rouge website. Before its premiere, she expressed excitement about briefly replacing concerts with theater performances.
“HOTTIES IM ON BROADWAY!!,” she wrote on social media after her first performance on March 24, referring to her fan base, known as “hotties.”
Megan Thee Stallion is best known for her hits such as Savage, WAP and Body.
In 2021, she won three Grammy Awards for Best Rap Song, Best New Artist, and Best Rap Performance. The following year, she was nominated for album of the year.
Harold Zidler was first played by Danny Burstein in the original cast of Moulin Rouge on Broadway and won a coveted Tony Award in 2020 for it. Most recently, famous drag artist Bob the Drag Queen played Zidler in the musical for eight weeks earlier this year.
