Democratic politician from Florida Found dead at home, her husband arrested

Nancy Metayer Bowena Democratic politician from Florida preparing to run for Congress, was found dead in her home…and police say her husband has been arrested in connection with her death.
Nancy was vice mayor and commissioner of Coral Springs…and local police said they went to her home Wednesday morning for a wellness check and found her body.
The cops say Nancy’s husband, Stephen Bowenis in custody and his death is being investigated as an incident of domestic violence. Police also say there are no other suspects.
Florida Representative. Jared Moskowitz said Nancy was about to announce she was running for Congress…and the Miami Herald reports that the announcement was scheduled for Thursday.

The outlet, citing sources, reports that Nancy was going to run in a Democratic primary for the seat held by Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormickwho was indicted for allegedly funneling millions of dollars in disaster relief funds to her campaign.
Nancy was elected in 2020 as Coral Springs’ first Black and Haitian-American female commissioner – she was re-elected in 2024 – and in November 2025, she was appointed to a second term as the city’s deputy mayor.
