One of the best players in the WNBA is on the move.
Two-time All-Star Angel Reese is being traded from the Chicago Sky to the Atlanta Dream, the teams announced Monday. The Sky will acquire a 2027 first-round pick and a 2028 first-round pick in exchange for Reese, and the teams will also trade 2028 second-round picks.
“Angel has broken numerous records in her first two years in the WNBA and has been a competitive force for Sky,” Chicago general manager Jeff Pagliocca said in a statement. “We are grateful for her many significant contributions to this league and this game, and we know she will continue to make a big impact on the field and beyond. We wish Angel all the best in her next chapter.”
The Sky drafted Reese with the seventh overall pick the 2024 WNBA Draft. She was named to the All-Rookie team in her first season, and in addition to being an All-Star, she also led the league in rebounding in each of her first two years in the league.
After starting her college career at Maryland, Reese became one of the stars of women’s soccer after leading LSU to a national championship in 2023, when the Tigers beat a Caitlin Clark-led Iowa team in the title game. The match generated a rivalry between Reese and Clarkwho has since moved to the WNBA.
Reese has not found the same postseason success as a professional, however, as Chicago has missed the playoffs in each of the last two seasons. The Sky made a coaching change before their 2025 campaign, but still finished with a worse record than Reese’s rookie year.
Although she admitted to speaking out in frustration, Reese criticized Sky’s management last September, saying the Chicago Tribune she “wasn’t settling for more of the same” after another disappointing season.
“I’m very vocal about what we need and what I want,” Reese said in September. “I would love to be here for my career, but if things don’t go well, obviously I might have to go in a different direction and do what’s best for me.”
Reese now joins a Dream Team that has made the playoffs in each of the last three seasons, but hasn’t advanced past the first round since 2018. Atlanta finished first in the Eastern Conference in 2025, but lost to Clark’s Indiana Fever in the playoffs.
Reese is entering the final guaranteed year of his rookie contract, with the Dream holding a team option for the 2027 season.
In 64 career games, Reese is averaging 14.1 points, 12.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.
