President Donald Trump said Monday the latest proposal of US ceasefire with Iran is “significant” but “not good enough”.
“They’ve made a proposal, and it’s an important proposal. It’s a significant step,” Trump told reporters on the South Lawn of the White House during the traditional Easter egg roll event.
“It’s not enough, but it’s a very important step,” he said, adding: “They are negotiating now and they have taken a very important step. We will see what happens.”
Trump is scheduled to lead a White House news conference at 1 p.m. ET.
The comments came after a White House official told CNBC that Trump did not support the idea of a 45-day deadline. ceasefire this would be under discussion between the two warring nations and regional mediators on Sunday evening.
The ceasefire is proposed as a last-ditch effort before the next deadline set by Trump to Iran either to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face major attacks against its civilian infrastructure.
In a social media threat containing profanity On Sunday, Trump warned that the United States would begin hitting Iranian bridges and power plants unless Tehran agreed to “open the strait” by Tuesday evening.

But a White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told CNBC Monday morning: “It’s one idea among many, and [Trump] did not sign it.”
