Amanda Bynes has given details about her new song, which is set to debut later this month.
The former child star has been out of Hollywood for years and is now set to return to the spotlight with the single titled “Girlfriend.” While speaking with a media outlet, she revealed the inspiration behind the song and has already shared snippets of the track on social media.

On April 10, Amanda Bynes will debut her new song “Girlfriend,” which marks her first musical project in four years.
The actress who left Hollywood years ago appears to be making a comeback with the song and shared her inspiration behind the project in a chat with E! News.
“My inspiration was a lot of EDM as well as rap,” Bynes told the outlet of his song, which also features Los Angeles-based rapper Fenix Flexin.
His statement was echoed by his label Create Music Group, who wrote that the song “blends melodic rap with EDM-inspired production, creating a catchy, highly replayed record with a smooth West Coast bounce.”
“Built around a strong hook and confident, flirtatious energy,” the label further touted the single, adding, “it’s built for repeat listens and broad playlist appeal.”
The former child star shared snippets of the song on social media
Bynes previously teased the new song in an Instagram post in January. At the time, she shared a snippet of the track that appeared to be the hook, with the words “I want to be your girlfriend” looping.
She also revealed her hopes for the song when it eventually debuts to her fans.
“I’m cooking in the studio. I want it to be an EDM dance trance track. We’ll see where we go with it,” the 40-year-old wrote in the caption.
The same month, she shared several other excerpts of the song on her page before announcing in February that she was collaborating with Flexin.
The announcement was accompanied by what appeared to be a clip of the artist’s role in the song and included images of someone’s hand displaying bling, which could be the featured artist.
“@fenixflexinofficial is going to be on my song GIRLFRIEND! Straight Fire,” Bynes announced, adding a fire emoji.

Since the song’s announcement, Bynes’ fans have expressed their eagerness to add it to their playlists.

She spent time as a podcast host with her friend Pal Sieminski before trying her hand at a career in cosmetology.
When it came to a career in cosmetology, Bynes often shared updates, including one in which she talked about getting her manicurist license.
“Since I haven’t yet passed the board exam to get my manicure license, I’ve started going back to school to study manicure theory and practice doing acrylics before taking the test again,” Bynes revealed in April 2024, “so I’ll be good to go when I get a job at a nail salon.”

The former Nickelodeon star has also dabbled in art, hosting an art exhibition in Los Angeles with clothing designer Austin Babbitt in December 2024.

For the show, held at the PLANTS + SPACES store, Bynes wore a bold black top with a center cutout, which she paired with sleek leather pants.
