It’s been a pretty big year so far for Nintendo’s Italian plumber. We are in the middle of its 40th anniversary celebrations, we recently celebrated March 10, we just received Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup at Bellabel Parkand at this moment, the Super Mario Galaxy movie plays in theaters.

In light of this crazy Mario year, gaming accessory maker Turtle Beach has released Switch 2 gear centered around Nintendo’s most iconic character. And what do you know, I was lucky enough to get my hands on some of these new Nintendo Switch 2 accessories myself.

Specifically, I was able to test out a new version of the Turtle Beach Rematch Wireless Controller for Nintendo Switch 2, which features both Mario and Luigi, as well as a Mario-themed version of the Turtle Beach Airlite Fit wired gaming headset. And while these are fairly modestly priced – especially compared to proprietary alternatives – I’ve had a pretty good time with both so far.

And so, I’m here to tell you about my experience with Turtle Beach’s new Switch 2 accessories and reveal the five things that surprised me the most about them. Interested? Of course you are – so let’s get into my list!

Rematch Wireless Controller: Great TMR Controllers

Since the official Nintendo Switch 2 Pro controller doesn’t feature Hall Effect or similar technology, I was impressed to see the inclusion of TMR controllers in the Rematch.

These TMR controllers offer high responsiveness and precision, and also reduce your chances of stick drift. When I previously tested the Rematch, I already appreciated the smooth, smooth feel of the joysticks, and as you might expect, they are once again a hit on this Mario Bros.-adorned model.

Turtle Beach’s controller is on the market for around $20 / £20 / AU$20 less than the official Pro Controller, and so I really wasn’t expecting to see a feature like TMR controllers, but it’s easily one of the biggest selling points of this model.

Rematch wireless controller: abundant battery life

Speaking of key selling points, it’s really hard to ignore the battery life of the Rematch controller. That’s right, Turtle Beach claims that this model gives you up to 40 hours of battery life, which is ideal for people like me who always forget to charge their gadgets.

I’m using the Mario Bros. version. of the Rematch controller to fuel my full-fledged and semi-problematic addiction to Pokémon Pokopia like lately. And I have to say, that 40 hour figure seems accurate in my experience: I barely had to recharge the battery.

This 40 hour amount is also equal to that of the more expensive official Switch 2 Pro controller, which we currently consider the best controller in our guide to the best Nintendo Switch 2 accessories.

AirLite Fit wired gaming headset: an incredibly low price

Now let’s move on to the AirLite Fit, a wired headset optimized for the Nintendo Switch 2. And one thing shocked me about this Mario-equipped piece of gear from the get-go: its exceptionally low price.

That’s right, this headset costs just $27.99 / £19.99, making it an incredibly budget-friendly option. Considering you get a noise-canceling microphone, adjustable headband, and generously padded earcups, it’s not a bad price at all. Sure, you don’t get the convenience of wireless connectivity and the 40mm drivers won’t deliver the most crystal-clear sound quality you’ve ever heard, but for less than $30/£20, that’s to be expected.

Given that the officially licensed PowerA wired headphones for Nintendo Switch 2 have a list price of $24.99 / £19.99, it seems that the price of Turtle Beach’s headset is very generous indeed.

AirLite Fit Wired Gaming Headset: Truly Solid Mic Quality

I was pleased to see that the AirLite Fit had a noise-cancelling mic and made sure to test it for video calls, voice recording tests, and for GameChat.

While you don’t get the most technologically sophisticated noise cancellation ever seen on the Airlite Fit, background noises are certainly muted to a decent effect. Additionally, I was very pleased to hear little to no background noise when recording my voice – something many cheap headphones suffer from. More generally, my voice was clear and my speech was well-defined, rather than slurred or slurred.

I also like how the headset mic can be turned off, meaning you just slide it up and your friends – or even enemies – won’t be able to hear you. Not bad, huh?

Rematch & AirLite Fit: their designs full of personality

Let’s round up these Mario-themed accessories for a moment and talk about something they’ve both mastered: their eye-catching designs.

Today, many budget accessories have black construction and struggle to stand out in a fairly complicated market. But Turtle Beach’s new accessories have surprised me with vibrant, personality-filled designs that are truly a joy to behold.

I’ll start with the controller, and while the aura farming of Mario and Luigi standing back to back caught my eye, it was something else that really piqued my interest. You see, when the model is used, many Super Mario power-ups light up on the face of the controller, including mushrooms, stars, boomerangs, seashells… you name it! You can even switch between four different lighting modes, which keeps things fresh.

As for the AirLite fit, I’m a fan of the semi-translucent design, as well as the inclusion of Mario on each earcup. The red and black colorway is also attractive and reflects how the Switch 2 console has an understated design with tasteful pops of color.

In my opinion, both accessories look great and exceeded my expectations in many areas. Oh, and they’re both compatible with the original Nintendo Switch as well as its successor, making them easily accessible to a wide range of gamers.
