Britney Spears has entered rehab, a month after being arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The singer voluntarily checked herself into a treatment center, her representative told several American media on Sunday.

Following his arrest on March 4, the star’s rep called the incident “completely inexcusable” and said his loved ones would “develop a necessary plan overdue to set him up for health success.”

Her entry into treatment comes three weeks before the 44-year-old is due to appear in a California court to face the drunk driving charge.

Last month, Spears was reported to authorities for driving her BMW “erratically at a high rate of speed” on a highway, the California Highway Patrol said.

She “exhibited signs of impairment” and submitted to a series of field sobriety tests after being arrested.

Afterwards, her representative told the BBC: “Britney will take the right steps and comply with the law and I hope this can be the first step in a long overdue change that needs to happen in Britney’s life.

“I hope she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.

“Her boys will spend time with her. Her loved ones will develop a plan necessary to prepare her for health success.”

Spears is one of the most successful pop stars of all time, with hits such as Baby One More Time, Toxic, Everytime, Gimme More, Womanizer and Stronger.

For 13 years until 2021, Spears was under a conservatorship – a legal conservatorship that saw her finances and personal life controlled by her father.

He said it was necessary because her life was “in ruins and she was in physical, emotional, mental and financial distress.”

“Through conservatorship, Britney was able to find a path back to stability in all these phases of her life. The mission was successful and now it is time for Britney to regain control of her life.”
