Stuck in a coffee rut? ChatGPT can now schedule your next Starbucks order

If you love having your daily cup of coffee at Starbucks, you will now be able to check out ChatGPT for your next drink. Starbucks said Wednesday that a new Starbucks app in ChatGPT, now in beta, will help you determine your next order based on your current mood or craving.

While you can’t order your Starbucks coffee directly through the ChatGPT app, it will suggest drinks and menu items you might enjoy, then direct you to the Starbucks app or website to complete your order.

OpenAI has added a host of other apps you can interact with in ChatGPT since announcing the feature last year. You can do everything from browse real estate ads has design playlists without leaving the chatbot interface.

You’ll be able to use prompts like “@Starbucks, I want something bright to start my morning” or upload an image to describe your mood and location. Once the menu suggestion appears in ChatGPT, you can start the order through the chatbot and then complete it in the Starbucks app or online.

Paul Riedel, senior vice president of digital and loyalty at Starbucks, said in a statement that Starbucks noticed that customers didn’t always start by looking at the menu. “They start with a feeling,” he said. “We wanted to meet customers at just that moment of inspiration and make it easier than ever to find a drink that’s right for them.”

Starbucks said that interacting with ChatGPT allows you to further personalize your order and discover menu options you’ve never considered before.

(Disclosure: Ziff Davis, CNET’s parent company, filed a lawsuit in 2025 against OpenAI, alleging that it violated Ziff Davis’ copyrights in the training and operation of its AI systems.)

When I tried the new feature, I asked about the weirdest drink combinations you can get at Starbucks. An interesting combination offered by ChatGPT was espresso with lemonade. The AI described another drink as a “basically liquid dessert soup,” if that’s more to your liking.
