  • You can now interact with data and create entire dashboards with Gemini in Sheets
  • Google Meet AI summaries now extend to in-person and third-party conferencing platforms
  • AI helped Google move from Microsoft 365 to Google Workspace even faster

Google Cloud just held its biggest event yet, but with more than 260 announcements across the portfolio at Google Cloud Next 2026, many of Google Workspace’s smaller but no less important updates went unnoticed.

In a “one more thing” blog post, the company detailed a number of less newsworthy improvements it has rolled out to its Workspace online apps to make Gemini even more useful.

With these changes, Gemini is moving from a generative tool for producing new content to an assistant agent that can interact with the context of your documents and perform certain functionalities autonomously.

Google Workspace just received these updates

Starting with one of the most commonly used Workspace apps, Sheets now allows users to analyze their data and produce dashboards in a more conversational way.

The company also claimed that 110 million Google Meet participants used “Take Notes For Me” in the last month – an 8.5x growth over last year – and now offers AI-generated summaries and action items beyond Meet’s four walls, including in-person meetings and calls on other platforms like Zoom and Teams.

And when it comes to organizations, Gemini Enterprise customers will be able to create completely new documents that align with their brand and requirements using the new “Canvas Mode.” With a detailed prompt, Gemini can retrieve data and context from the web and other locations in the workspace to generate complete presentations and documents that are as editable as human-created ones.

Finally, Google Cloud’s position against Microsoft didn’t turn out badly at its annual conference. Having already filed a complaint against Microsoft’s cloud practices, Google now says it’s up to 5x faster for M365 customers to migrate to Workspace thanks to some under-the-hood interoperability improvements, like an AI-powered Office macro converter.
