The “Star Wars” actor was asked if these allegations were true while promoting his new film, “Paper Tiger,” at the Cannes Film Festival.
Adam Driver gives brief response to Lena Dunham accusations in memoir
The “Marriage Story” actor was quick to respond to a question about the allegations Lena Dunham made against him in her memoir “Famesick” while promoting his latest film. At the Cannes press conference, Driver was asked if what she wrote in the book was true.
“I have no comment on any of this,” he said, according to Deadline. “I’m saving all that for my book.” The comment, which can be heard in the video above, made the crowd laugh.
It’s a bit of an ironic response from the notoriously private actor who probably doesn’t actually intend to write a book. Then again, the reaction to Dunham’s memoir showed that many fans would be interested in hearing his side of the story.

Lena Dunham played the title character Hannah in the HBO comedy “Girls,” which ran from 2012 to 2017. Adam Driver played her on-again, off-again boyfriend, also named Adam, although their relationship was often portrayed as toxic. In the book, Dunham claimed that Driver was “verbally aggressive” toward her and once “threw a chair at the wall next to me.”
“I remember doing a fight scene with Adam and how scary it was to meet someone so totally present with such absence,” Dunham wrote in her tell-all book. “Late that night, while we were rehearsing our lines in my trailer, I discovered that mine had suddenly disappeared. I knew I had written them. I had only known them a few minutes before. But when I opened my mouth, all that came out was a stutter – until finally Adam shouted ‘Fuck, say something’ and threw a chair at the wall next to me. ‘Wake up,’ he told me. ‘I’m tired of looking at you.’
Lena Dunham Claims Driver ‘Turned’ Her During Intimate Scene
While filming an intimate scene for the show’s first season, Dunham, who was also the show’s creator, writer and director, claimed her “care blocking went out the window.” She claims the “House of Gucci” actor “threw me out of this and that.”
In the book, she claimed she was so “stunned” that she “couldn’t speak for a moment”, and went on to write that she was “not sure what happened”.
“Had I lost directing authority, let the scene go off the rails, failed to give proper instructions? Would I be immediately removed from my position of command?” » Dunham wondered after that moment.
Scarlett Johansson talks about working with Adam Driver
Lena Dunham isn’t the only one to have a fight scene with Driver. “Avengers” actress Scarlett Johansson “I spent two whole days” yelling at the actor while filming Noah Baumbach’s 2019 drama “Marriage Story,” which tells the story of a couple fighting over custody of their son while going through a tumultuous divorce.

“It was exhausting, but if I didn’t have such a strong actor as Adam to take everything I gave him, I would have been lost,” Johansson said. “For me, working with other actors is a very important part of what I do…that’s it.”
The scene was so aggressive that the U.S. Department of Agriculture released audio of their arguing scenes to scare off a pack of gray wolves that were allegedly “terrorizing” livestock on an Oregon farm, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Scarlett Johansson has nothing but praise for her driver
In 2025, the “Jurassic World Rebirth” actress told PEOPLE magazine that she had a “tremendous” experience working with Driver. “I love Adam as a person and he’s an absolutely amazing actor,” she said at the time. “If I could do every movie with Adam Driver, I would.”
After filming “Marriage Story,” she reunited with Driver on the set of “Paper Tiger,” even though she was not in Cannes due to a scheduling conflict. Even though she was married to Miles Teller’s character and had few scenes with Driver, she only had positive things to say about him.
“I would have loved to have had more scenes with him. I love working with him,” Johansson told The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the “Paper Tiger” premiere.
“Star Wars” actress Marguerite Ridley also had positive things to say about working with the actor, despite Dunham’s accusations.
