Let’s start with some of the more general negative comments that fans have left on various social media platforms and forums since the premiere of the Prime Video show’s finale.
On ResetEra, Bor Gullet called it a “limp finale” that “chose the most clichéd, cheap, and least imaginative ending”. Bor Gullet was so furious with “Blood and Bone” that they later criticized it for looking “like it was filmed on two soundstages” and having “no sense of scale or spectacle.”
Picking up the theme from Bor Gullet’s second comment, Narastel, another ResetEra user, speculated that “something must have happened behind the scenes” to make “Blood and Bone” look like a “YouTube fan film thing.”
Similar sentiments were expressed by users like Corncob and Redditors including The_Swarm22, with some pointing out that previous seasons had higher production quality and then speculating about possible budget cuts for The boys the smaller-scale sensation of Season 5. Back on ResetEra, Nooblet summed things up in his post, which ended with: “The whole thing felt…like it was created by a scene-generating robot.”
Moving on to more specific plot topics – many of which are covered in the Reddit post above – fans had a lot to say about the finale’s major showdown between Homelander and Butcher, with the latter being aided by Kimiko and Ryan in taking down the tyrannical Supe.
“Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that the ‘Scorched Earth’ showdown would happen exclusively inside the Oval Office, resulting in just a few burned carpets and broken furniture,” lamented Redditor SectionMore. Meanwhile, on X/Twitter, YesItsM1g3ul added: “7 years. 5 seasons. Homelander has never been to ‘Scorched Earth’. Are you kidding me.”
“‘Scorched Earth… *fights in a single room in the White House*…fuck you, [showrunner Eric] Kripke,” Reddit user MattTheMLGPro also wrote, before IDKandfranklyIDC added: “They were literally blowing up buildings in seasons 2 and 3. In the series finale we have broken tables.”
As for Homelander’s death, X/Twitter user ChappellTardis spoke for many in questioning the entire point of the main story of Season 5. That being said, the storyline regarding V1, aka the very first version of Supe’s creator serum which also grants immortality to anyone who takes it. Indeed, with Homelander completely depowered and rendered mortal once again by Kimiko’s nuclear blast ability, the aforementioned user angrily wrote, “The ENTIRE plot of Season V1 meant NOTHING.”
Kripke really had the audacity to put this finale on film. It was absolute garbage. #TheBoysMay 20, 2026
Fan frustration boiled over with other confusing narrative beats.
“No way, they just time skipped from the White House straight to their house at night, casually celebrating what they did, JUST LIKE THAT??” Playful-Complaint-227 had the titular team escape unscathed after killing Homelander. “No Supes protect anything? The White House had ABSOLUTELY NO DEFENSE??”
“Starlight needs to name her daughter after Hughie’s deceased ex. SAVAGE It’s a way to end both his character and the show,” ResetEra user MadLaughter said of the couple’s happy ending. “Imagine having a baby with your current wife and naming the child after your deceased ex-girlfriend,” Redditor dirtyconsolepeasant7 agreed.
“I feel like Mother’s Milk adopting Ryan was pretty cool, but I feel like Hughie should have recommended him. Generation V casting for the task force,” said Nopeisawesome on Redditor about the epilogue of episode 8 of season 5 in relation to Generation VThe recent cancellation of. “I mean, it would be slightly concluded Generation V“Plot point, which they completely wasted, but oh well.”
We’ve got another one, the boys of r/TheBoys
Perhaps most infuriating of all, especially for Kripke and company, is that fans are suggesting that The boysThe final episode is not only one of the worst series finales of all time, but arguably weaker than Game of Thrones‘, an ending universally criticized – something that Policy Chonk, from the ResetEra forum, expressed for many.
Some viewers enjoyed “Blood and Bone” and the series’ final season, including Redditor xziggy123x, as well as ResetEra users ratcliffja, SamualDude, and Kuroi the Black.
Nonetheless, the common consensus — at least in online circles — is that The boys dropped the ball with its latest release. As Stranger Things and countless shows before it, so its finale will go down in history for all the wrong reasons.
