The Best Books Everyone Should Read

Reading is one of my favorite hobbies. I set aside time in the morning and time in the evening to read and that’s how I fit it in. You make time for what is important to you and reading is important to me.

It keeps you interested and interesting.

And if you’re trying to learn more, I highly recommend getting a To light up. It holds a ton of books, it’s perfect for traveling, and you can even keep it in your purse and read a little while you wait at the doctor’s office or school pick-up.

If you don’t know where to start, here are some amazing books I’ve read recently.

The Best Books Everyone Should Read

The Bottomless Cup by Kevin Boehm

This one got me thinking about standards. Not just in business, but in how you treat people, how you host, how you follow through. It’s hospitality on the surface, but it’s really about relationships and consistency. It has refined the way I think about experience in everything I build.

Be sure to listen or watch his episode on The Bosssticks.

The Friday Afternoon Club by Griffin Dunne

I loved it for the storytelling. It’s family, Hollywood, growing up around interesting people, but it never feels forced. It reminded me how powerful it is to tell things like they are, without overproducing the narrative.

When breath becomes air by Paul Kalanithi

It put everything into perspective for me. The time, the purpose, the way you actually live day to day. I like it to be calm and concrete. He’s not trying to get you out of your emotions, he just is.

Strangers by Belle Burden

It made me more aware. Of people, of moments, of how often we move too fast to notice anything. It’s subtle, but it stays with you in the way you experience your day after.

Mrs. Kennedy and I by Clint Hill

I am very attracted to Jackie’s calmness. The discipline, the restraint, the way she handled herself in the face of so much pressure. This book really shows it. It made me think a lot about presence and control.

All the Way to the River by Elizabeth Gilbert

It seemed grounded. It’s about trusting yourself, your ideas, your instincts. I’m always looking for ways to be clearer and quieter, and this pushed me in that direction.

Gwyneth: the biography of Gwyneth Paltrow

I respect the way she built her brand and stayed aligned with her point of view. This book shows the decisions behind that. This made me think about making your story my own and not adapting it to everyone.

Listen or watch our conversation with Gwyneth here.

I Regret Almost Everything by Keith McNally

I love how direct it is. He talks about success, but also about everything that goes wrong along the way. It’s honest in a way that feels useful, especially when you’re building something for the long term.

Say it all by Ione Skye

This one seems very personal. It’s about growing up, relationships, different phases of life. I liked the way she thought things through without over-explaining. It made me think about my own phases and how they shaped me.

Amy Griffin’s Tell

It made me think about storytelling in a different way. What we share, what we withhold, and how that shapes perception. It’s quiet, but it changes the way you think about your own voice.

How to Murder Your Life by Cat Marnell

It’s intense, but very real. I don’t read it as an aspiration at all. It’s more about seeing what happens when things go too far. It made me appreciate structure and balance even more.

Be Prepared When Good Luck Comes By Ina Garten

I love Ina’s approach. It is stable, prepared and very clear. This book reinforced the fact that success is not random. This is built over time, with intention.

The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion

That stayed with me. The way she deals with grief is so controlled and observant. It made me think about how we deal with difficult things and the strength that comes from restraint.

Don’t forget to check out other book recommendations on my Amazon Page And Good reads. You can also consult Michael’s book recommendations here.

Again, if your goal is to learn more, I highly recommend getting a To light up with a nice case. My favorites are these the red And French blue.

If you prefer real books, which I often do too, use this red book light. It’s so calming and good for your eyes.

Happy reading.
