My darling costume may have been published in a seinen publication, but it has a surprisingly broader appeal in its charming and extremely heartwarming insight into a high school romance between a bubbly gyaru cosplayer and an introverted hina doll maker. Although he hides his passions, Marin Kitagawa accidentally discovers Wakana Gojo’s natural aptitude for costume design, as he develops a keen eye inherited from his work on traditional dolls. Soon, as Wakana begins designing costumes, he expresses admiration for Marin’s beautiful cosplay, a great moment as he comes out of his shell for her, while Marin finds himself developing a huge crush.

THE My darling costume the anime is incomplete and can sometimes lack fan service, but CloverWorks nails the intense, sweet, and hilarious moments by adapting the manga in equal measure while giving viewers plenty to chew on long before a confession happens. Before any dangerous incident occurs, Satoru is able to send his consciousness back in time for a few moments to prevent this from happening. But when a murder takes the life of a loved one, Satoru is sent back 18 years, where he learns that this opportunity is not only to save a member of his family, it is a potential threat to several people from his past.

Cleared is a humanistic mix of what could be a typical time-slip drama. Instead of the powerful, romantic and emotional affair of similar settings like that of 2024 Nice runner A K-drama, this anime blends powerful melancholic tones true to its medium and a compelling mystery at its heart. It’s distinctly humanistic, not exploiting the gimmick of Satoru’s powers, but instead using it as an opportunity for him to protect those he cares about in ways that are meaningfully felt over time.
