OpenAI to acquire Ona to support its AI coding assistant, Codex

OpenAI announced Thursday that it would acquire SOa startup that provides secure, preconfigured cloud environments where artificial intelligence agents can access tools, systems and context.

Ona’s technology will enable OpenAI’s coding assistant, Manuscriptto take on longer tasks, OpenAI said. It will also help more organizations deploy agents, which perform tasks independently on behalf of a user, in production, the company said.

OpenAI did not disclose terms of the acquisition, which is still subject to customary closing conditions. The Ona team will join OpenAI and work as part of the Codex team once the deal closes.

OpenAI kicked off the AI ​​boom with the launch of its ChatGPT chatbot in 2022, and it has invested in Codex in recent months as software developers have adopted AI agents as part of their workflows.
