Release of the Mega Review Kill the Arrow 2It is second “Major Update” last night on June 18, which takes the four beta branch patches released since April 17 and combines them into one big patch for its main branch. However, while there won’t be too many surprises in this patch for those of you who have been following the news Kill the Spire 2 bi-monthly beta patches, Mega Crit promises that major update #2 will feature at least “a few major changes that will be completely new to everyone.”
If you haven’t tried Kill the Spire 2 beta patches, here are the two main changes you missed: some Elites, like Skulking Colony and Infested Prism, have been heavily nerfed/buffedand Doormaker, the controversial Act 3 boss that led to the game getting bombarded with reviews on Steamhas been removed entirely and replaced by a new bossAeonglass.
If you’re already up to date with the content of the last four beta patches, don’t worry, because there are still some interesting additions in Major Update #2 for you. Most intriguing is the addition of Steam Workshop support, meaning mods for Kill the Arrow 2 can be downloaded directly through the Steam client.
Mods are available for Kill the Arrow 2 from day one, but it’s still a nice addition simply because of how easy it is to install mods through the Steam client. In case you’re curious, there are already (at the time of writing) 420 mods available for Kill the Arrow 2 via the Steam Workshop. And yes, before you ask, there is one who adds Doormaker back.
There’s another pretty interesting change that will be new to everyone, but this one is a little hard to summarize, for probably obvious reasons. As Mega Crit’s Ed Lu notes in the patch notes, a user named tckmn recently published a long article about a rather nasty bug in Kill the Arrow 2 that the community spotted at the beginning of the week.
In short, Kill the Spire 2 PRNGs (pseudo-random number generators) were (in the simplest terms) broken. Essentially, the randomness factor of some of the game’s mechanics wasn’t as random as Mega Crit intended, resulting in things like Neow’s Bones Ancient Relic giving you the Debt Curse 54% of the time.
Well, great news; they fixed it. In the process of fixing this bug, Mega Crit also inadvertently added a new card to the game – or rather, added a card that was already supposed to be in the game from day one. This is because the PRNG bug prevented the Rebound card from appearing in the Trash Heap event. Thank goodness they fixed this, because I swear this event gave me Clash 99% of the time, and I hate that damn card.
If none of the new stuff excites you, then I guess you’ll have to wait until the next beta patch in two weeks for something juicier. Personally, what interests me most is to see if everything these negative reviews on Steam about the Doormaker are suddenly starting to disappear now that he’s been completely removed from the game. I won’t hold my breath on that, though.
