President Donald Trump Friday accused Iran of violating a ceasefire agreement with the United States by launching an attack drones to ships passing through the Strait of Hormuzone of which cargo ship which was struck off the coast of Oman THURSDAY.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran fired at least four one-way attack drones at ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social Post.
“One of the drones violently struck the upper deck of a large and very expensive cargo ship,” the president wrote.
“Some damage was done, but the ship was able to continue on its way. We knocked down three more drones. Obviously this is a stupid violation of our ceasefire agreement.”
Read more about CNBC’s politics coverageTrump’s statement follows the decision by the International Maritime Organization, a United Nations agency, to suspend its efforts to evacuate ships and the sailors stranded in the strait.
Arsenio Dominguez, secretary general of the International Maritime Organization, said in a statement that the evacuation plan would be temporarily suspended “in order to reconfirm that the necessary safety guarantees continue to be in place for the ships on our evacuation list and for all those in the region.”
