The Sugarland singer recently opened up about the couple’s ceremony at New York’s Madison Square Garden, describing the event as both beautiful and deeply meaningful. For Nettles, who has known Swift for years and previously collaborated with the pop superstar, the opportunity to witness such a milestone was something she wouldn’t soon forget.

Speaking to PEOPLE at the opening night of her off-Broadway musical “Giulia: The Poison Queen of Palermo” on July 10, Nettles shared how honored she felt to be included in the celebration.
“Being a part of even a small part of their story was super special to me because, obviously, these are two people who are at the absolute top of their industry, at the top of their game, at the top of their craft, at the top of their artistry,” Nettles said. “It’s such an important moment in their lives. To be able to witness this very special moment is beautiful.”
Swift and Kelce’s wedding reportedly attracted around 1,000 guests to Madison Square Garden, with celebrities, athletes, music industry figures and longtime friends gathering to celebrate the couple’s relationship. The ceremony featured several emotional moments, including Swift and Kelce each reading their vows from guestbooks while surrounded by family and loved ones.
The invitation came as a surprise
Despite her longtime friendship and professional ties with Swift, Nettles admitted she was shocked to receive an invitation. The country music star previously teamed up with Swift on Sugarland’s song “Babe” in 2018, and the two have publicly supported each other for years. Still, Nettles said she had no idea what was going on behind the scenes before the wedding.
“It all surprised me, because of course no one knew anything,” she explained. “I guess people had, there were leaks here and there where people were guessing, but no one knew for sure where we were going until much closer.”

Nettles’ comments have added meaning because she is not just another celebrity. The singer has publicly supported Swift and Kelce’s relationship since its beginnings and has long praised the Grammy winner, both personally and professionally.

The praise doesn’t stop there. “As a songwriter, you can’t touch her,” Nettles added. “She is the greatest artist of all time, truly of our generation.”

While Nettles was one of the nearly 1,000 guests in attendance, Swift and Kelce made sure their wedding remained deeply personal despite its scale.
The couple wore custom Christian Dior Haute Couture looks designed by Jonathan Anderson, who worked closely with Swift and Kelce on their wedding day outfit. According to a statement from Swift’s rep, the bride’s dress was Anderson’s first couture wedding dress created for a world-famous celebrity. The newlyweds completed their look with custom Christian Louboutin shoes, while Swift accessorized with Cartier jewelry.
Rather than follow tradition with a large wedding party, the couple chose to focus on family. Swift’s younger brother, Austin Swift, served as his best man, while retired NFL star Kelce’s brother Jason Kelce, stood by his side as a witness.
