NBC fired security guard after shocking ‘TODAY’ show security breach that ended with intruder confronted Craig Melvin … TMZ confirmed it.
Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ…the guard was fired Thursday after allegedly allowing the suspect to slip into Studio 1A, causing the scary incident.
Security footage reportedly shows two guards stationed at the entrance when the breach occurred, according to Page six. The outlet reports that one guard briefly walked away while the other did not notice the man entering the restricted area.
We reached out to a representative for the “TODAY” show, who declined to comment on the firing.
As TMZ first reported, Andrew True Love entered 30 Rockefeller Plaza in the “TODAY” square after asking the staff where he could find Al Roker. Law enforcement sources tell us he never found Roker and instead lunged at Craig while yelling the N-word at him.
Truelove was quickly detained until the New York Police Department arrived. Despite this alarming encounter, no one was injured and Craig and Al were back on air about 15 minutes later.
Our cameras then captured a heavy police presence outside 30 Rock as investigators looked into how the suspect managed to get so deep inside the building.
Truelove was charged with hate crime burglary, hate crime menacing, hate crime criminal trespass and harassment.
