Oscar-winning songwriter Glen Hansard, who was also the frontman for Irish rock band The Frames, has died in a motorcycle accident in his hometown of Dublin.
Hansard, 56, won the Oscar for best song for the 2007 low-budget musical film Once.
Hansard was born in Dublin in 1970 and worked the streets before landing the role of Outspan Foster in the 1991 film The Commitments.
Police are appealing for witnesses following the single-vehicle crash on Lower Road in Lucan, west Dublin.
He was reported to emergency services shortly before 4:30 a.m. local time.
