The fifth and final major tournament of the season promises to be electric, with many contenders set to realize lofty personal ambitions at Royal Lytham & St Annes, including Ryu Hae-ran and Nelly Korda.
World No. 1 Korda has won the first two majors of 2026, but Ryu has also doubled up. This is the first time that two players have won multiple major tournaments during a season. They both hope to emulate the great Inbee Park, the last player to win three major titles in a single calendar year. It was in 2013.
The consistency of Korda, who would also complete a career Grand Slam with victory in Lancashire, has been astonishing in recent seasons, but she missed her first cut in two years earlier this month.
A victory would see Miyu Yamashita become the first player to play in a back-to-back major tournament since Yani Tseng in 2011, a scenario that is not out of the question on current form. The 24-year-old has placed in the top five in four of the last six tournaments she has played.
Yamashita’s triumph a year ago moved Charley Hull to her second Women’s Open runner-up spot in three years, but she has a big reason to be cheerful this weekend: the last two winners of the Royal Lytham Women’s Open were British.
