Brighton's game at the Amex Stadium against Crystal Palace postponed due to upcoming rail strikes

Brighton and Hove Albion's Premier League home game against Crystal Palace on September 17 has been postponed due to a planned railway strike.

The Premier League said the decision was made following "exceptional circumstances". They couldn't sanction the match without public transportation available on the day.

A statement from the governing body reads: "The Premier League has consulted with both clubs, the police, Brighton & Hove City Council's Safety Advisory Group and other relevant authorities to explore possible alternate plans, but all agreed that there was no other option but to reschedule the appointment.”

Chelsea may be a snake pit for managers, but Graham Potter should step in anyway

A new date for the rescheduled game at Amex Stadium will be announced in due course.

Brighton chief executive Paul Barber said: "Both clubs wanted the game to take place on the original date and there has been ongoing dialogue in order to achieve this with all relevant authorities, including Sussex and Surrey Police, other local emergency services and agencies, Brighton & Hove City Council, the Premier League and Crystal Palace.

"Following these discussions, and having carefully assessed all factors, the unanimous recommendation of the Safety Advisory Group was to postpone the game with the full support of the Premier League.

While we fully understand that this will be a huge disappointment to both groups of supporters and will disrupt both teams' and supporters' match schedules, the safety of both clubs' supporters, our staff on matchday match, players and officials must be the priority.”

Barber said the problems experienced by the two groups of supporters trying to get to the Amex Stadium, which is located in Falmer near the University of Sussex campus, without being able to use the trains, were taken into consideration , with various contingency plans being considered.

"This included additional travel options or moving the game to earlier or later in the same week, with Sunday afternoon being the last game that could be played that weekend due to the international break, but it just wasn't possible to play the game with a full capacity crowd,” Barber added.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused fans of both teams, but believe the right decision has been made. We would also like to thank Crystal Palace, the Premier League and the authorities for their support in this case."

The Seagulls could potentially be without Graham Potter for this game as he is reportedly in talks to replace Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.

The German was sacked on Wednesday morning and Potter is one of the managers they are considering. They are also considering former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino.
