Deadstream's 'brutal' filming schedule meant there was no room for error

Speaking to Film School Rejects, Joseph and Vanessa Winter explained that they had to pre-plan every aspect of "Deadstream" due to the nature of the live stream's narrative setting.

"It was pretty brutal," Vanessa Winter said.

"There wasn't a lot of room to play, in terms of time restrictions. And also, just in the nature of a livestream, the movie actually had to be pretty specific where every point of the plot and every bit of dialogue was sort of outdated so we didn't end up with a very long movie."

For his part, Joseph Winter, who also plays the role of Shawn Ruddy, explained that "there was a stopwatch aspect where Vanessa knew how many seconds we had for each moment". This meant there was no room for improvisation, even though the film looked like it was. "The only time we had to invent something on the spot was because it just didn't work," Winter added.

The fact that "Deadstream" feels so natural without resorting to improvisation is a testament not only to the fantastic script, but also to the intricate camerawork used to make this found film work. Whether you're looking to enjoy something spooky or just want to watch an internet idiot get its way, "Deadstream" is worth adding to your to-watch list.
