Emma Raducanu explains why she hired Sebastian Sachs as new coach and outlines 2023 goals

Emma Raducanu has claimed her last coach was a 'quiet influence' as she targets a return to winning ways in 2023. The British No.1 hasn't won a tournament since her US Open triumph 2021 while not finding a long-term coach solution.

Germany Sebastian Sachs is currently working with Raducanu in Abu Dhabi for a trial before heading to Australia. Sachs, 30, guided Belinda Bencic to an Olympic gold medal last year and has also worked with former world number 1 Victoria Azarenka and Germany's Julia Gorges.

The Bromley star, who turned 20 last month, lost 5-7, 6-3, 10-8 to Wimbledon runners-up Ons Jabeur at the Mubadala Championships exhibition in Abu Dubai.

And Raducanu said, "Yeah, we're testing until the end of the year. Just to see how it really goes. Everything's been great so far. I've only done a week with him. He's a very quiet influence. He's on it, turned on and can't wait to see how it goes."

When asked about her ambitions for the new year, she added: "For me, I really want to make inroads in any tournament. Slams, I like big occasions, I like big courts, the atmosphere. Any tournament for me, my goal in 2023 is to win a title."

Sachs becomes Raducanu's fifth different coach in the last 18 months, after brief stints with Torben Beltz and then Dmitry Tursunov. The Briton has just returned to the field after a wrist injury.

The British No.1 will start her 2023 season at the ASB Classic in Auckland on January 2. She will join Coco Gauff, Sloane Stephens and Leylah Fernandez in New Zealand.

Speaking after her narrow loss to world No. 2 Jabeur in Mubadala, Raducanu said: "Yeah, I'm pretty happy. I had to cut my season short due to a wrist injury, so I just played sports.

"I've started getting back on court recently over the past two weeks, so happy to be making progress and looking forward to 2023."
