Keir Starmer has supported The Independent campaign to prevent the deportation of an Afghan war hero facing deportation to Rwanda.< /p>

In a dramatic intervention, the Labor leader said it was 'a shame' that a brave pilot who fought alongside British troops had been 'expelled'.

He also accused the government of a 'shameful level of incompetence' as he called on ministers not to expel him.

The Independent revealed this week that the Afghan Air Force veteran had fled the Taliban and arrived in Britain on a small boat because he could not secure any safe and legal route to the UK.

< p>Rishi Sunak promised that the Ministry of Interior would reconsider his case. But as anger over the situation grew, senior military officials, politicians and diplomats lined up to demand that he not be sent to Rwanda.

Sir Keir told The Independent: "It's a shame that this brave pilot who fought alongside British troops is at risk of being kicked out by the government's unworkable trick."
