Ex-Mayor Bhagyalakshmi appeals to voters to give her another opportunity

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Mayoral candidate Rayana Bhagyalakshmi on Thursday appealed to voters to give her another opportunity to serve as Mayor, adding that the city had witnessed significant development during the party’s previous five-year tenure.

Addressing the media in Gandhi Nagar, Ms. Bhagyalakshmi said the party was committed to accelerating urban development and remaining accessible to the public. She urged voters to elect her and the party’s corporator candidates in the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation elections.

Alleging that the coalition government had failed to deliver on its promises, she questioned the development works undertaken in Vijayawada over the past three years. She claimed that the previous YSRCP government had improved water tanks, drainage systems, parks, community halls and the Ajit Singh Nagar dumping yard. She also cited the construction of a retaining wall in Krishnalanka as a major achievement.

YSRCP NTR district president Devineni Avinash said Ms. Bhagyalakshmi had discharged her responsibilities as Mayor with commitment and helped the city secure awards during her tenure. He appealed to voters to support all 86 YSRCP corporator candidates.

Former Minister Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao alleged that the coalition government had failed to take adequate measures to address Vijayawada’s civic problems, including flooding and drainage issues. He claimed that the previous YSRCP government had undertaken significant development works and expressed confidence that his party would win the municipal elections.

Warning against complacency Mr Mahama cautioned that portraying electoral victory as dependent primarily on who occupies positions at the Commission could encourage complacency among supporters when they favour an appointment and fatalism when they oppose it.
