AAP alleges corruption in DJB on spraying of anti-frothing agent in Yamuna

“The container belonging to a company is marked ‘Defoamer Stock’, which means the tanks and all the equipment used to spray chemicals to remove foam from the Yamuna have already been set up,” says AAP Delhi president

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday (October 21, 2026) alleged that there was corruption in the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) in connection with a deforming agent being sprayed in Yamuna.

Showing a setup installed by a contractor at the Kalindi Kunj ghat, AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “The container belonging to a company is marked ‘Defoamer Stock’, which means the tanks and all the equipment used to spray chemicals to remove foam from the Yamuna have already been set up here. The motors that are fitted onto boats have also arrived. All the equipment and labour have been present at this site for the past two to three days.”

He alleged that the person who installed the setup told them that a DJB engineer had instructed them to begin work here. “What is surprising is that the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has not even opened the tender yet. How, then, does the DJB already know that this tender will be awarded?” he asked.

Mr. Bharadwaj alleged that this clearly indicates large-scale corruption within the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), where officials already know who will receive a tender. “That is why all the pumps have arrived here even before the tender has been opened. The entire tent setup is in place, and containers holding the chemicals used for defoaming have also been brought to the site,” he said.

Deforming agent is sprayed in parts of Yamuna where there is frothing in the river. There was no immediate reaction from the Delhi BJP.

Minerals Commission defends termination of Northern Ashanti Mines’ mineral rights over $8.3m debt

The Minerals Commission has defended its decision to terminate the mineral rights of Northern Ashanti Mines Limited, formerly Owere Mines, insisting that the company persistently failed to meet its statutory financial obligations despite several opportunities to settle its debts. Responding to the company’s challenge to the debt figures, the Commission insisted that its records showed Northern Ashanti Mines had paid only US$300,000 in two instalments, contrary to the company’s claim of having paid US$1 million.
