NPP Walewale Constituency condemns personal attacks against MP, urges party discipline

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Walewale Constituency has condemned what it describes as disrespectful and ill-motivated remarks made against the Member of Parliament for Walewale, Dr Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama. The NPP in Walewale also used the statement to reaffirm its commitment to enforcing a directive from the party’s General Secretary ordering prospective parliamentary aspirants to cease campaigning.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Walewale Constituency has condemned what it describes as disrespectful and ill-motivated remarks made against the Member of Parliament for Walewale, Dr Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama.

The party's reaction follows comments by one Hakim, popularly known as Oil, during an interview on Mamprugu Online TV, in which he reportedly described the MP as a “woman” and questioned his achievements compared with those of his predecessor.

In a press statement dated October 23, 2026, and signed by the constituency secretary, Tia Francis, the party described the comments as unfortunate and inconsistent with responsible political discourse.

It stressed that although constructive criticism and accountability were essential to democracy, such engagements must be conducted with decorum and respect.

The constituency executives further argued that comparisons between public officeholders should be based on verifiable facts rather than personal attacks.

The NPP in Walewale also used the statement to reaffirm its commitment to enforcing a directive from the party's General Secretary ordering prospective parliamentary aspirants to cease campaigning.

It urged all party members and prospective parliamentary candidates to comply fully with the directive, warning that anyone found violating it would face appropriate disciplinary sanctions under the party's constitution and regulations.

“No member is above the party's rules,” the statement emphasised.

The party's position comes amid internal political activity and discussions about the future leadership of the constituency ahead of the next parliamentary election.

The constituency leadership has appealed to members and supporters to uphold discipline, promote unity and refrain from personal attacks or conduct that could undermine the party's cohesion.

It said the party's collective interest and the welfare of the people of Walewale must take precedence over individual ambitions.

The statement concluded with a call for members to prioritise respect, discipline and unity as the NPP works to strengthen its position in the constituency.

“Let us prioritise respect, discipline, and the collective interest of the NPP and the people of Walewale,” it said.
