The incessant attacks on Ministers from the Volta Region by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and sections of the media perceived as sympathetic to it are increasingly worrying. In my view, we are witnessing a deliberate and unfortunate pattern of attempts to undermine the credibility, integrity, and contributions of some of the Volta Region’s finest political leaders.

From Abla Dzifa Gomashie to Kwame Agbodza, and now Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the recurring attacks raise legitimate questions about the motivations behind these campaigns.

Political accountability and constructive criticism are essential ingredients of our democracy. However, there is a clear distinction between holding public officials accountable and engaging in sustained personal attacks and unsubstantiated allegations intended to damage their reputations and distract from their responsibilities.

Our Ministers deserve to be assessed fairly on their performance, decisions and contributions to national development, rather than being subjected to what appears to be a coordinated campaign of political vilification.

I call on the NDC in the Volta Region, particularly our vibrant Youth Wing, to stand firm in solidarity with our Ministers. We must remain vigilant, united and resolute in defending their integrity against unfounded allegations and politically motivated attacks, while continuing to uphold the principles of transparency and accountability.

The Volta Region has contributed immensely to the NDC's political fortunes and Ghana's development. We must never allow partisan attacks to diminish the contributions of our distinguished representatives in government.

We must stand together, speak with one voice and defend our own when they are unfairly targeted.

An attack on the reputation of one of our leaders without credible justification deserves a collective, principled response.

Divided by Party, United in Suffering: Ghana’s dilemma of blind partisan loyalty

This is where I juxtapose Karl Marx’s famous description of religion as the “opium of the masses” to offer an interesting lens through which to examine Ghanaian partisan politics. Marx, the German philosopher and economist, used opium as a metaphor for something that provides comfort amid suffering while potentially distracting people from the conditions responsible for that suffering.
