The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has established a directorate to monitor the inflow and outflow of state government funds as part of efforts to prevent corruption and financial crimes.

The Commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyode, disclosed this while delivering a special lecture to mark the 30th anniversary of Zamfara State in Gusau.

He said the EFCC was shifting towards preventing financial crimes rather than focusing solely on prosecuting offenders after public funds had been misappropriated.

According to him, the newly established directorate will monitor state government finances to prevent the diversion and embezzlement of public resources.

Olukoyode also disclosed that EFCC officials had been included in meetings of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to monitor allocations to state governments.

He said the move was aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the management and expenditure of public funds.

The special lecture, organised as part of Zamfara State’s 30th anniversary celebrations, provided an opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on the state’s achievements and challenges over the past three decades and discuss its future.

The lecture focused on accountability, security and sustainable development.
