‘Cyberabad Moves 2026’ to turn traffic data into solutions

With 74 critical junctions identified for redevelopment and new studies on public transport and one-way systems, Cyberabad is seeking solutions beyond simply managing traffic

Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Cyberabad, Sunpreet Singh, Cyberabad Municipal Commissioner G. Srijana and Cyberabad Commissioner of Police M. Ramesh during the poster launch of ‘Cyberabad Moves 2026’ in Hyderabad on Friday.

With nearly 2,500 new vehicles being added to the roads every day in Hyderabad, Cyberabad is set to bring government agencies, businesses, urban planners, academics, students and citizens together for a three-day exercise aimed at rethinking how the rapidly expanding city moves.

Cyberabad Moves 2026 will be held at T-Hub from November 26 to 28. The initiative is being organised by the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, Cyberabad Police, Society for Cyberabad Security Council and SHIFT Transport Initiative to explore safer, inclusive, climate-resilient and efficient mobility solutions.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Ramesh said that mobility had to go beyond managing traffic and focus on ensuring that people could travel efficiently and safely.

He said traffic affected virtually every section of society, including office-goers, taxi drivers and delivery personnel, while the time spent on roads was unproductive. With development in Cyberabad continuing, he said the focus should be on finding solutions rather than restricting growth.

“As the city expands, mobility must go beyond managing traffic to ensuring that everybody can travel efficiently and safely,” he said, stressing the need for greater awareness, responsible road behaviour and coordinated efforts between government agencies, businesses, academia and citizens. He said decisions on traffic needed to be guided by data, road engineering, space management and research.

CMC Commissioner G. Srijana said the city’s growth presented an opportunity to rethink how people moved across Cyberabad. “As the city grows, its mobility systems must evolve to ensure that growth is supported by safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport,” she said.

The initiative builds on several mobility interventions already under way. The Cyberabad Safer Junctions Programme has identified 74 critical junctions for redevelopment in collaboration with the traffic police and expert groups, while six major junctions, including Biodiversity, Narsapur X Road, JNTU, Gachibowli, BHEL and Quthbullapur, are at different stages of transformation.

SCSC CEO Naved Khan said the initiative would bring stakeholders together to examine mobility problems that were often dealt with separately by different departments. Around 100 people from different sectors had earlier been divided into teams and given four hours to examine urban challenges and develop solutions, he said.

WRI fellow Srinivas Alavilli said Cyberabad Moves would provide an immersive understanding of the city’s mobility challenges through data and public engagement, with discussions focusing on practical interventions in public transport, pedestrian and cycling infrastructure and student mobility.

The three-day programme will use life-sized maps, data visualisations and interactive exhibits to allow visitors to locate their neighbourhoods, trace familiar journeys and understand how individual commuting experiences connect with the wider mobility network.

More than 60 engineers and traffic police personnel have already undergone capacity-building training on safer streets and junctions.
