Nearly 1,500 police personnel would be deployed across Sri Sathya Sai district to ensure peaceful conduct of municipal elections scheduled for November 1.

Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar told the media here on Friday that polling would be held in six municipalities, including Puttaparthi, Hindupur, Kadiri, Penukonda, Madakasira and Dharmavaram. “We have classified polling stations as normal, sensitive and hypersensitive and made security arrangements accordingly, with additional forces deployed in vulnerable areas,” the SP said.

Mr. Kumar said that civil police, armed reserve personnel, special parties and APSP forces would be pressed into service.

“As many as 61 striking forces, route mobile teams and special striking units would remain on alert to tackle any untoward incidents. Border checkposts have been strengthened to prevent outsiders and curb the illegal transportation of cash and liquor. CCTV cameras will provide continuous surveillance at polling stations and surrounding areas,” the SP maintained, adding that restrictions under BNSS Section 163 and Section 30 of the Police Act would be in force.

The SP appealed to voters to vote freely without fear. He urged people to report election violations to officials promptly and cooperate with the police to maintain peace.
