Dr Razak Opoku touts KGL growth, hails President Mahama for not falling for propaganda

Financial economist and policy analyst Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku has praised the continuous growth of the KGL Group, arguing that the company’s expansion should be welcomed as a positive development for the country. “Kudos to President John Mahama for acting in a manner considered RIGHT, FAIR, and JUST regarding the NLA–KGL deal.

Financial economist and policy analyst Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku has praised the continuous growth of the KGL Group, arguing that the company’s expansion should be welcomed as a positive development for the country.

In a social media post, Dr. Opoku advanced an argument establishing a clear correlation between KGL’s growth in size and revenue and its impact on Ghana’s socio-economic progress.

He explained that Ghana, through the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), stands to benefit significantly from KGL’s growth, which is projected to generate higher revenue in the coming year.

Beyond the payment of commissions to the NLA and tax obligations to the GRA, KGL has also invested across key socio-economic sectors of the country, including sports, entertainment, and others.

“Despite the negative publicity generated against KGL, the business continues to grow in 2026 through the HAND OF GOD ALMIGHTY. As a result, the REPUBLIC, through the NLA and GRA, stands to benefit even more from the NLA–KGL deal in 2027 & beyond,” part of the social media post read.

Dr. Opoku also paid glowing tributes to President John Dramani Mahama for not succumbing to what he believes to be propaganda from certain media outlets calling for the abrogation of the contract between KGL and the NLA.

He commended President Mahama for demonstrating what he described as a “right, fair and just” approach in handling the situation and for refusing to yield to the supposed campaign scheme orchestrated by certain media outlets.

Dr. Opoku maintained that the NLA–KGL deal has delivered mutual benefits for all parties involved and that the public will continue to reap its rewards.

“Kudos to President John Mahama for acting in a manner considered RIGHT, FAIR, and JUST regarding the NLA–KGL deal. For the information of FALSE ESTATE who advocated for the IMMEDIATE ABROGATION of the deal, the NLA-KGL deal has COME TO STAY with MORE BENEFITS to the REPUBLIC,” he said.

It will be recalled that certain media outlets mounted a campaign for the termination of the contract between the NLA and KGL, under which the latter was to undertake certain aspects of lottery operations.

He said rather than terminating the agreement, President Mahama ordered a review of the contract to ensure that the interests of all parties are adequately protected.

In April 2026, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) received GH¢153.21 million in corporate income tax from the KGL Group as part of voluntary compliance efforts to boost domestic revenue mobilisation.
