The Christian Medical College (CMC) observed World Stroke Day 2026 at its campus in Vellore and Ranipet on Friday.

According to a press release, the event was held under the theme ‘Each Minute Counts, Be FAST, Recognise Stroke, Save Lives’. The celebrations brought together neurology, radiology, rehabilitation, emergency medicine, and nursing teams to show the public what timely stroke care looks like, from the first symptom to recovery.

A free Carotid Doppler screening camp run by the Division of Clinical Radiology, catered to around 500 persons. Interactive stalls, talks in four languages, testimonies from stroke survivors, and a reel-making competition were also held.

The event discussed warning signs of stroke, the urgency of reaching hospital within the treatment window, emergency brain imaging, acute treatment, including clot-dissolving and clot-retrieval therapies, and rehabilitation and recovery.

Vinay Timothy Oommen, deputy director, CMC Vellore, and head, Department of Physiology; Myla Yacob, deputy medical superintendent, CMC Vellore, are among others who took part in the event, the release said.
