The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 40-year-old man, Roger Borbobli, after allegedly finding 91 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in his possession at the VIP Bus Terminal at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

The arrest was made on October 29, 2026, by officers from the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), following information that the suspect had been spotted at the terminal with three suitcases containing the suspected narcotics.

According to preliminary investigations, some loading boys at the terminal detected an unusual smell coming from the suitcases and alerted the Police.

A team of officers subsequently arrived at the scene, arrested the suspect and retrieved the three suitcases, which contained 91 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspect reportedly valued the seized substances at GH¢33,600.

During interrogation, Mr Borbobli allegedly told investigators that he was a farmer from Sovie Kudzra, near Kpando in the Volta North Region.

He reportedly admitted cultivating Indian hemp but said the parcels found in his possession had been acquired from another farmer, identified as Benjamin, from the same community.

The exhibits are expected to be forwarded to the Police Forensic Crime Laboratory for analytical examination.

The suspect remains in Police custody, assisting investigations, and is expected to be brought before the court to face justice.
