Two members of a proscribed outfit were arrested for allegedly being involved in the kidnapping of a woman in Manipur's Imphal East district, police said on Saturday (October 31, 2026).

A joint team of police commandos and 31st Assam Rifles personnel apprehended the two militants, who belong to the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Nongdrenkhomba), on Thursday (October 29), a police statement said.

"They have been suspected of being involved in the kidnapping of a woman from Top Awang Leikai in Imphal East district on September 3," police said.

A firearm along with ammunition and a car were seized from their possession, it said.

Security forces have been conducting search operations in Manipur since ethnic violence broke out in the State three years ago.

The ethnic conflict that erupted in May 2023 between the valley-based Meitei and hill-based Kuki communities has claimed at least 306 lives, while 49 people remain missing and thousands have been left homeless. In recent months, clashes between Kuki and Naga communities have also been reported.
