Y. S. Sharmila announces shifting of daughter’s wedding venue amid row over Yelahanka property
The Congress leader said it was every parent’s cherished wish to celebrate their child’s wedding at their own home and expressed anguish over her inability to fulfil her daughter’s aspiration

Andhra Pradesh Congress president Y.S. Sharmila has announced that her daughter Anjili Reddy’s wedding will be held at a venue other than the Yelahanka property in Bengaluru, following a controversy over her request to host the wedding at the family property.
Ms. Sharmila posted on X on Saturday stating that the Yelahanka property, which was a joint family asset until Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy became Chief Minister, had subsequently been allotted entirely to her and her children as part of the family property division.
“After Jagan Mohan Reddy became Chief Minister, the Yelahanka property, which had until then been a joint family asset, came entirely (100%) to my share and that of my children as part of the division of family properties. This is the truth, in the name of God,” she said.
Explaining the reason behind her decision to host the wedding at the property, she said it belonged to her children and was also the house where her father, former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, had lived. She had wanted to fulfil her daughter’s wish to get married at the house where she had grown up.
Ms. Sharmila said it was every parent’s cherished wish to celebrate their child’s wedding at their own home and expressed anguish over her inability to fulfil her daughter’s aspiration.
Stating that Anjili’s marriage to Somala Raghuram Reddy was an alliance arranged by elders, she said the family had a responsibility to ensure that the wedding was conducted peacefully, without controversy or unpleasant incidents. “In view of this, we have decided to hold the wedding of Y.S. Anjili Reddy and Somala Raghuram Reddy at a different venue instead of the Yelahanka house, in the presence of relatives, friends and well-wishers,” she announced.
