Depression over Bay of Bengal may bring rain to Telangana, heavy showers likely in nine districts on November 2

The system would weaken considerably before reaching Telangana, says S. Stella, Head of the IMD Centre Hyderabad

The IMD’s observed and forecast track, based on observations at 11.30 a.m. on October 31, shows the depression moving west-northwestwards from the southeast Bay of Bengal. The system is likely to reach the Andhra Pradesh coast on November 2 before moving inland towards Telangana

The second depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm before moving towards the Andhra Pradesh coast, but it is likely to weaken into a deep depression by the time it reaches Telangana, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The system is expected to move west-northwestwards and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast on the morning of November 3. While the system is forecast to intensify into a cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal, its intensity is expected to reduce as it moves inland.

Speaking to The Hindu, S. Stella, Head of the IMD Centre Hyderabad said the system would weaken considerably before reaching Telangana and that the State was unlikely to experience the impact of a cyclonic storm. “It will be a depression only. It will weaken. Moreover, when it is weakening, the clouds and all will shear off,” she said.

According to her, Telangana is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall from November 2 to 4, with isolated heavy rainfall at few places on November 3 and 4.

On November 2, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jagtial, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal districts. On November 3, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal districts. Hyderabad, too, is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall during this period, Ms. Stella added.

The IMD’s observed and forecast track, based on observations at 11.30 a.m. on Saturday (October 31, 2026), shows the depression moving west-northwestwards from the southeast Bay of Bengal. It is expected to strengthen into a deep depression by the evening of October 31, followed by a cyclonic storm over the subsequent 24 hours. The system is likely to reach the Andhra Pradesh coast on November 2 before moving inland towards Telangana.
