NDC officials and other party members are the ones doing galamsey – Miracles Aboagye

The National Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has accused members and executives of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of engaging in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey. It is NDC people and their executives who are engaged in galamsey now.

The National Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has accused members and executives of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of engaging in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

He argued that the fight against illegal mining should not be framed as a problem involving Ghanaians generally, insisting that individuals allegedly involved in the activity must be identified and held accountable.

“It is not the Ghanaian people that are doing galamsey. It is NDC people and their executives who are engaged in galamsey now. Let us call them out for who they are,” he said.

Mr Aboagye’s comments amount to an allegation against members of the governing party and come amid growing political exchanges over responsibility for the continued illegal mining activities and their impact on the environment.

He made the remarks on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, October 31, as he criticised the NDC government’s record in tackling galamsey.

The NPP communicator has repeatedly argued that the current administration should be held accountable for its promises to address illegal mining, rather than shifting the debate to the previous government.
