The Dharam Singh Foundation will organise a mass marriage ceremony at Jewargi in Kalaburagi district on December 25 to mark the 90th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Late N. Dharam Singh.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Minor Irrigation Minister Ajay Singh said the ceremony would be held at the convention hall in Jewargi town named after his father (Dharam Singh).
He said that the foundation organised a similar mass marriage ceremony in Jewargi in 2022, in which 108 couples got married, he said.
Dr. Singh said the prevailing drought situation had pushed farmers into distress, prompting the foundation to extend support to rural families across the Kalyana Karnataka region by organising the mass marriage.
The foundation would arrange transportation for the participating couples and provide them with clothes, mangalsutras and essential household articles, he said.
Interested brides and grooms can register by calling 72472 42929 and submitting relevant documents. A committee would be constituted to scrutinise the applications and verify the documents, Dr. Singh said.
There would be no restriction on the number of couples participating in the ceremony.
The Minister appealed to families across the seven districts of Kalyana Karnataka to make use of the initiative, particularly those planning to solemnise marriages in their families this year. The last date for registration is December 10, he said.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara are expected to attend the programme.
